It's not over in any way. You start something with a complete stranger and want it to be over? You haven't answered any of my questions. You've started something you can't finish and now you have no answers. It's kind of pitiful. At least if you're so firm in your beliefs you would have no problem in answering a person's questions, especially if you've just told them that their belief system in a farce. But I don't think it's a debate you really can win.

How certain are you that there is no God? Are you 100% sure?

:iconkirstyc:
Yes. I 100% BELIEVE the non-existence of God. Please do not try and argue the existence of God, we both know that it cannot be proven either way. Regarding your questions, I'll try my best to answer them. let's agree not to insult each other and try and have a civilised debate.

Okay, no insults.
This is more of a question anyway.
Merely from curiousity, what makes you certain of the non-existence of any god? do you believe in devils, spirits, etc. or nothing at all? I'm trying to get inside an atheist's head because as much as you think that i believe in something unreal, I wonder how anyone can believe in nothing. Where do you think you go when you die? Is that something uncertain or is there somewhere that you feel people go?

In my opinion, and I'm not speaking for atheists in general here;

I cannot percieve any kind of "force" or "power" greater than science. To me, God cannot be explained by science, therefore God is an anomaly and cannot coherently exist. There is evidence, but no proof, of God's existence.

As for death, for me, it's either a ceasure to exist. Example: you are no longer an autonomous creature of independant thought. You may as well be a chair or a ball or something. These things don't have thoughts or feelings because they don't have life. Once you die, you no longer live, or "contain" life. Your concious mind ceases to exist. My other theory would be a kind of abyss where the mind lingers and has the ability of thought, but not of feeling or any kind of connection to reality. Of course, this cannot be scientifically proven either. So my ultimate answer would be that of a mystery. You only find out what happens to the dead when you yourself are dead.

I don't believe in nothing, I believe in the power of science and the continuity of life that has come about as a result of science. I guess you could interpret this as Science being my God, but by God I'm making the assumption that you mean an omniscient, omnipotent, benevolent entity which exists above and beyond the human understanding. I do not see Science as any of these things, but merely as a "fact", not a concious God-like being. Therefore I do not percieve Science and the intricacies of science as "God", just logic.

Isn't it a bit terrifying to think of ceasing to exist? Or is it something that you have come to terms with? I ask because I would be terrified if I didn't know what happens after death. Does that mean that you don't believe in soul? Or do you feel that soul/mind are one/same thing? Because if the mind were disjointed from the body, would that not be a 'soul'? In your first theory, that would mean that the mind would die with the body; or cease to exist. Many feel the mind and the brain are one, and scientifically, the brain has the ability to last for 900 years. If the brain/mind are one then would that mean that the mind would have to go on for at least that long? What are your views on soul and mind?
